Rank Pharmacy

An independent community pharmacy in Estcourt, KZN — SAPC-compliant, SEO-optimised and built from scratch with hand-coded HTML, CSS and JS. No templates. No WordPress. A digital presence that matches the professionalism of a pharmacist who’s served the same families for decades.

The Brief — Rank Pharmacy had no website. The pharmacist, Goolam Rassool Haroon Olideen, had been serving the Estcourt community for decades with a 5-star reputation but zero digital presence. The brief was a professional, informational site: no online store, no payment gateway — just a trusted front door that turns a visit into a WhatsApp or a phone call.

The Challenge — A pharmacy website is one of the most regulated categories in South African web design. The SAPC Good Pharmacy Practice Manual, the Medicines Act and the SAPC Code of Conduct all apply. That meant no testimonials, no comparative pricing, no therapeutic claims for supplements, a full Privacy Policy (POPIA), a complaints procedure with SAPC referral details, and the responsible pharmacist’s name and registration number displayed on the homepage — not just the About page. Eleven compliance issues were identified and resolved before the site went live.

The Build — Six pages of hand-coded HTML, CSS and vanilla JS — no frameworks, no WordPress, no templates. A Three.js animated pills background. Full SEO on every page including JSON-LD Pharmacy schema, Open Graph, canonical tags and a sitemap. Professional email routing via Cloudflare (info@rankpharmacy.co.za), contact form wired through EmailJS, and DNS managed entirely through the developer’s Cloudflare account. Deployed on GitHub Pages with Cloudflare DNS and automatic SSL.

The Result — A fully live, SAPC-compliant, SEO-optimised pharmacy website indexed by Google within days of launch — with the business now appearing in Google’s local map pack for Estcourt pharmacy searches.

Estcourt Waste Collectors is a family-run business that’s served KwaZulu-Natal for over 25 years. They do household and commercial waste collection, recycling across paper, plastic, metal and glass, and run a community salvage store. They had the reputation and the community trust — but no website to show for it.

The brief was simple: a fast, mobile-first site that works on slow connections, turns visitors into WhatsApp enquiries, and looks the part. The result is a front door that turns a single tap into a booked collection.

Live Web Application Business Directory KwaZulu-Natal 2026

Hidden Gems SA

A free local business directory built to help KwaZulu-Natal businesses get discovered by the people looking for exactly what they offer. Home bakers, tutors, transport operators and trades list for free, get reviewed before going live, and are discoverable through category, area and attribute-based filtering.

The Brief — Hidden Gems SA was built as Olideen Technologies’ own product — not commissioned client work — to put a genuine belief about local business discovery into practice. Home bakers, tutors, transport operators, tradespeople and more all have loyal customers nearby, but nothing beyond word of mouth to help new customers find them. The self-set brief was a free directory that businesses could join in minutes and customers could actually search — by category, by area, and by the specific things that matter to them.

The Challenge — A directory is only useful if the listings are trustworthy and the search actually narrows things down. That meant a moderation workflow so every business is reviewed before it goes live, a way for owners to keep their own listing current without a password to lose or a helpdesk ticket to raise, and filters — Halal certification, delivery availability, call-out service — specific enough to actually help someone choose, not just a generic category list. All of it had to hold up under POPIA, CPA and ECTA from day one.

The Build — A Next.js app on Vercel, with Supabase (Postgres, Row Level Security, Auth) handling data and access control, Cloudinary for image delivery, and Resend for transactional email — magic links, moderation notices, listing updates. Business owners edit their own listing through a secure magic-link flow, no password required. A weighted fairness rotation algorithm powers the “Featured Gem” spotlight so every business gets a fair, non-repeating turn, kept ticking over by a Vercel cron job. Full SEO groundwork — dynamic sitemap, JSON-LD structured data, category and area landing pages, and a blog for long-tail search — plus canvas-generated shareable graphics and automated WhatsApp notifications so businesses can promote their own listing. Admin security is hardened with rate-limited login, session token rotation and real-time login/action alerts.

The Result — A free, self-service directory that’s live and onboarding real KwaZulu-Natal businesses — from home bakers to transport operators — each one discoverable by exactly the customers who were already looking for what they offer.
